innovative evolution

It's fair to say that we've been working on these shorts for the last 15 years. That's how long it's been since the original Free Aero Race shorts were first introduced, initially as our top-of-the-line race shorts. Since then they've won three Tours de France, three Giri d'Italia, one Vuelta and San Remo, but they've also become the best-selling product in Castelli's history because, quite simply, it's the short that does it all right.

The concept is pretty simple: start with the best chamois we know how to make, surround it with a supportive short with good muscle compression, and then remove everything else that isn't absolutely necessary. You feel free thanks to the reduced number of panels and the reduced number of seams.

In fact, the short part only has 5 panels, compared to 10 for the previous generation. You feel Free thanks to the new refinements of the Progetto X2 Air seamless seat pad. Dual densities of foam plus gel pads provide progressive cushioning, while the separate Skin Care layer is soft and springy to move with your skin. You'll feel free with the most minimal bib shorts you've ever seen in a short, featuring open-weave bibs for maximum airflow.

But we've reinforced the yoke so the straps stay in place and we've made the mesh back narrow so there's minimal coverage, but enough to keep the shorts in place. And the culotte elegantly frames a practical pocket in the center of the back. You feel free because it is the first high-end short that does not need any type of darts or elastic at the end of the leg to keep it in place.

To achieve this, we've had to run 28 prototypes and our most extensive testing program to date, and the result is the most comfortable leg end we've ever built. The fabric of the Forza 2 is 32% Lycra® with a high modulus for exceptional muscle support and just the right amount of compression. There is a reflective trim on the back. And all logos are stitched or embossed for added durability.
