Q36.5 Unique Adventure Black Shoes

The first cycling shoes based on body mapping for road cycling. The sole is made from a hybrid carbon fiber compound with a “spine” geometry (inspired by biomimetic engineering), which optimizes stiffness along the sole while eliminating excess material. The upper is designed as a single piece, without the classic tongue used in other models. The UNIQUE fit the foot like a sock, with an internal wrap made from a single piece of microfiber and an innovative three-dimensional fabric.

- The last

The search for the perfect cycling shoe began with designing the ideal last. Data from many pairs of feet were analyzed, and extensive personal experience from a wide variety of athletes was collected, including their preferences, dislikes, and needs regarding the shoes they used. An exhaustive study of foot anatomy was carried out, analyzing the optimal curve to obtain maximum power with each pedal stroke and minimize fatigue. This work, including the experience of many expert cyclists, provided the necessary basis to design the last. The Q36.5 last is the most innovative concept applied to cycling: the heel, side, and instep are maximally fitted to wrap the foot precisely. The toe box is comfortable and follows the dynamics of the pedaling motion.

- The insole

To develop the best chamois, Q36.5 and Elastic Interface® collaborated to create a new patent. They used the high-density elastic foam employed in Q36.5 chamois to create an innovative, very comfortable insole. It is an insole that adapts to the foot, working like viscoelastic foam that molds to the foot. The insole thus absorbs micro-vibrations from the road, increasing comfort on long-distance rides. Compared to conventional cycling shoe insoles – and even to custom-made orthotic insoles – the UNIQUE insole from Q36.5 guarantees 10% less pressure (measured at the point of greatest pressure).

- The upper

The instep area has been designed following a new one-piece pattern, without the usual tongue found on other shoes. This allows it to fit the foot like a sock, thanks to the internal wrap made of natural microfiber. This patented stretch fabric is highly breathable and acts as a cooler for the midfoot area. This structure also avoids pressure points with its new closure system. This part of the upper comfortably wraps the foot with its body-mapped construction, which includes a series of ventilated zones. At just one millimeter thick, the microfiber is extremely breathable and prevents overheating. It features reinforcements in the arch area to create the support and stiffness needed for performance.

- BOA® fit

For this cutting-edge cycling shoe, Q36.5 knew it had to select the best option on the market for tightening the UNIQUE shoe. A closure type that pairs perfectly with the “sock-like” upper design, thus guaranteeing maximum performance. That is why they partnered with the exclusive BOA® Fit System with a common goal: to create the best fit system for the high-performance cyclist.

The UNIQUE shoes come equipped with BOA®’s new Li2 closure system. This is the ultimate solution for a precise fit that is quick and easy to adjust. Lightweight and low profile, it offers proven impact and abrasion resistance. This dial works in both directions for faster, more intuitive on-the-fly adjustment. Q36.5 chose to use two dials because it provides maximum control for the rider.

The tightening zone of the upper BOA® dial ensures an even distribution of pressure across the instep, thanks also to a low-friction plastic guide. The lower dial acts on the forefoot area, where three BOA® textile guides are used for optimal control. This performance-focused configuration, combined with an innovative design and a unique last, come together to create a truly exclusive cycling shoe.

- Power Wrap support

The core of the shoe’s upper is invisible but essential. In the instep area, there is an integrated support system to maximize power transfer. This area is lined with a thermoplastic material that is molded for a perfect fit while reinforcing the microfiber inside the upper. The Power Wrap surrounds the instep and keeps the foot in place, providing ergogenic assistance during pedaling and ensuring that not a single watt of power is lost.
